During the reign of Aragon, the French Estouteville (Italianized in Tuttavilla) settled in Naples where they held important public offices and were awarded the title of Dukes of Calabritto.
Vincenzo Tuttavilla, wishing to build a residence for his family, bought an extension of land near the church of Santa Maria della Vittoria and around 1720 he opened a building site after having allocated part of the property to public street (the current via Calabritto ).
King Charles III of Bourbon, worried by the majesty of the building, wanted to buy it for 34700 ducats, but it was not his intention to complete it or use it.
Therefore in 1754 Francesco, son of Duke Vincenzo, managed to buy it back, returning to the court the same sum received at the time from the sale.
Once the palace was regained, Don Francesco had it restored by the architect Luigi Vanvitelli, who made substantial modifications to the staircase and portals. The majestic portal inmarble is surrounded by ionic caryatids.
